Day 01

Arrive Mulu Airport. To purchase taxi coupon at airport for transfer to Park Headquarters(own arrangement). Check into your room. Afternoon, explore Mulu Caves. Deer Cave and Langs Cave are two distinctly different caves situated in the ‘Southern Hills’ area of the park.  Tours to these caves are led by World Heritage Guides and leave the office at 2.00pm and 2.30pm.  You should be at the office at least 10 minutes early.

While Lang Cave is the smallest of the four ‘show caves’ in the park, it too is very special.  It has a spectacular array of stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, shawls and rimstone pools. In contrast, Deer Cave is not only the biggest show cave at Mulu, it is the largest cave passage in the world.  A powerful underground river once flowed through this area, dissolving and eroding the limestone to form a stream-passage cave.  While Deer Cave does not have lots of cave decoration its’ size alone is overwhelming.  Return to Park Headquarters. Overnight.

Day 02

Breakfast. 0845 – 0915 hrs, meet your guide at the front of the office and then travel by longboat to Batu Bungan, a Penan Longhouse.  Here a Penan guide will take you through the market and explain the handicrafts to you. (the market  is not open on Sundays).  Continue in your boat to Cave of the Wind s where your guide will take you through this cave and then to Clearwater Cave. After visiting the caves, Join an easy adventure tour of Turtle Cave which starts at 12.00 at the end of the Clearwater tour and will take about 1 hour.  If you have never caved before, this is a great introduction to the experience of exploring Mulu’s underground world.  Our guide leads you down into the river and along its pathway out of the cave.  This tour runs once a day depending on water levels and may be cancelled without notice if the water is too high.

Note:

SHOES WITH A NON-SLIP SOLE SUITABLE TO WEAR IN THE RIVER ARE ESSENTIAL – SANDALS ARE NOT PERMITTED.  ANYONE WEARING SANDALS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS TOUR.
