Tour SDK 02 -Sepilok Orang Utan/Sandakan City (daytrip with lunch)

Morning, depart Sandakan for a 30 minutes drive to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Centre which is located about 26km from Sandakan town.  This 4,000 hectares of virgin forest is the world’s largest orang utan (regarded as the most intelligent primate after mankind) sanctuary.  Observe how these animals are rehabilitated and trained to fend for themselves.  Sepilok has a number of well-demarcated jungle trails for trekking and a Nature Education Center that provides slide shows and exhibitions.

Return to Sandakan for lunch, proceed to the Pavilion to catch a bird’s eye view of Sandakan, before visiting the Central Market, Water Village and the Puu Gih Jih temple the biggest Buddhist Temple in the region.   (L)

 

Tour SDK 03 – Selingan Turtle Island / Sepilok (2 days 1 night fullboard)

Day 01            – Morning, depart Sandakan to the jetty to take a motorized boat to Selingan Island. Check into the Island’s guesthouse.  After lunch, proceed for a guided tour of the island to see the nesting place of the turtles.  The guide will give a brief graphic description on how the turtles dig into the sand before laying their eggs.  Free at own leisure to stroll along the lovely white sandy beaches or go for snorkeling to see the rich and beautiful tropical marine life.  This island is a strict conservation area and visitors are not allowed to simply move around at night without the supervision of the park warden. .   In the evening, after dinner, when the turtles come ashore, the warden will notify and lead visitors to the appropriate site to watch the turtles lay their eggs.  Proceed to the turtle’s nursery to watch newly hatched turtles being released into the sea.    (L, D)

Day 02            – After breakfast, return to Sandakan by motorized boat. Visit Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Centre located about 26km from Sandakan town. Tour SDK 04 – Sukau / Sepilok (2 days 1 night fullboard)

Day 01 – Morning, depart Sandakan for a 2 hours drive to Gomantong Caves to explore the biggest bird’s nest cave in Sabah. Continue the journey passing through oil palm plantations to reach Sukau village, proceed by boat on the Kinabatangan river to the Lodge for lunch.  Late afternoon will be spent cruising along the river at the forest reserve to watch the wildlife and the Proboscis monkeys found in Borneo.  Proboscis monkeys are quaint looking creatures with a distinctive large nose and can make a wide range of noises, including squeals and loud roars.  They are diurnal, but most active during early morning and late afternoon when moving to sleeping sites, usually along a riverbank.   Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Day 02 – Breakfast. Return to Sandakan. Visit Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Centre located about 26km from Sandakan town.  The 4,000 hectares of virgin forest is the world’s largest orang utan (regarded as the most intelligent primate after mankind) sanctuary. Observe how these animals are rehabilitated and rained to fend for themselves.  Trek on the well-demarcated jungle trails and view a slide shows and exhibitions at the Nature Education Center.

Day 02 – After breakfast. Take another boat ride for bird watching and other animals nearby the ox bow lakes. Return to the lodge by trekking through the lush riverine forest from ox bow lake. Observe life in a native village and return to Sandakan after lunch.
